In mid-June, I published an article titled “Nuclear weapons use can save humanity from global catastrophe” in Profil magazine. It was posted in Russian and in English almost simultaneously on the Russia in Global Affairs journal’s website. [1] It was widely reprinted around the world, sparking a tsunami of responses, objections, and debates, tens of thousands of reactions. There was also no shortage of words of support, either.
RIA Novosti has published an excerpt from an article by Sergei Karaganov, Honorary Chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy. The full text of the article will appear in the journal Russia in Global Affairs.
Sergei Karaganov explains the purpose of the nuclear threat to the West The scholar believes that the Third World War cannot be avoided without climbing the “escalation ladder”. Interviewed by Vitaly Tseplyaev
Let me share a few thoughts which I have entertained for a long time and which took their final shape after the recent Assembly of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy that proved to be one of the most remarkable gatherings in its 31-year history.
“I think this kind of conflict is a failure of my generation, because we could have prevented open war in Europe, which is perhaps still in its initial phase. We should have acted earlier and more decisively. We appeased, hoped, and believed for too long,” said Sergei Karaganov, Academic Supervisor of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the Higher School of Economics. In the 1990s and the 2000s, he was a member of the Trilateral Commission, a leading organization that brought together the elites from the United States, Western Europe, he became (and still is) one of the most informed political scientists in Russia. In an interview to BUSINESS Online, he told us whether nuclear war is possible, whether we will become a satellite of China, and why some in the Russian government are against designing a new ideology.
The year that has passed since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, in fact of the hidden war, which the West has been waging covertly against Russia for about fifteen years and which Russia has simply brought into the open, needs assessment in terms of evaluating the results, reviewing the experience, and adjusting the objectives.

A new article of S.A. Karaganov " We Are Witnessing a New World in the Making" was published in "Rossiiskaya Gazeta", Federal issue #242(8890) in Russian language.
We say Sergei Karaganov and imply a grandiose disturbance. We say a grandiose disturbance and mean Sergei Karaganov. The honorary chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy is the flesh and blood of the Russian elite, a person whom the Russian President can publicly call by name, and who regularly sits next to Sergei Lavrov at various events. And this is also the man who has recently suggested the unthinkable―contemplating possible Russian nuclear strikes on NATO countries.
